Munsch Fun!

First thing this morning we were treated to a puppet show of six Robert Munsch stories. There were  a lot of laughs!

When we returned to the classroom, we had some time for free choice centers before our calendar meeting and snack.

We were finally able to enjoy some outdoor recesses, even though the wind was a little bit chilly.

Our new PWIM poster was introduced today, including some related toys and books (much thanks to our librarian!)

The next two activities of the day took longer than I thought, but that happens sometimes. So, for math we reviewed our 2-D shapes. We read a story called Shapes in the Dessert. Then, students used shapes to create a shape monster/animal/creature. After they finished, they gave it a name and counted how many of each shape they used. Here is an example:

Then, we had a discussion about St. Patrick's Day. Most of them had very little background knowledge. We read a story called Little Pip and the Rainbow Wish. Then we made clouds and rainbows. Students had a choice between tracing or printing a sentence that read:

If I found a pot of gold and a leprechaun gave me six wishes,
I would wish for a rainbow of things!

Then, they had to come up with six wishes and printed one on each colour of the rainbow (we did red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple). Now we have a new bulletin board of rainbow wishes! My phone didn't have enough charge at the end of the day to get a photo, but this is the example that I showed them:

We have one more day of Kindergarten this week, which is going to include a Persephone Theatre presentation and skate-a-thon! March is off and running.
