Hello October!

One did look like the loneliest number on our calendar today. Hello October!! It was a little tricky to wrap their minds around why I took all of the numbers down, why we had to start all over again, and why 1 was supposed to go in the middle and not in the first square. :) However, talking about how Halloween comes at the end of October was pretty exciting.

In Math today, we worked on extending patterns. Students had to figure out what came next in a pattern. It's not the best picture, but this is what we were working on:
It turned out to not be the greatest sheet to work on, as it was missing a picture that we needed! Some students figured it out though, so I suppose that it one way to find out who is really reading the patterns. :)

Mr. P the Speech and Language Pathologist stopped by for a visit. He taught us about the villain Destroyer of Fun who is over competitive! We talked about being a good sport and being polite during games/sports.We also got to watch a part of You're A Good Sport Charlie Brown.

We also watched a story book turned into cartoon online:
Officer Buckle knows so many safety tips! This story helped us to brainstorm our own safety tips and rules that are meant to keep us safe.

Leading into our first PWIM cycle, where we will be focusing on colour words, we worked on reading the poem Fall Leaves together. They also requested that we read Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? again, so we did that one too.
Next up, it was time to do some artwork for our new bulletin board. We made trees made out of handprints and leaves using Q-tips as paintbrushes. I think that they did a great job! Many students wanted to continue painting after they were finished, so we also had some creations of rainbows and abstract art.

I'm looking forward to the learning that we have coming up this month! Hopefully the fall colours will continue to stick around for a while ;).
I'll leave you with some October wishes!
