We Want to Be A Part of It- Grade One Grade One!!!

We did it!
Last Friday, June 26th our school celebrated both the Kindergarten and Grade 12 graduation. I extend a huge thank you to the parents, family, and friends that joined us for this celebration. We had words of advice from the Grade One and Two classes as well, which was very sweet and fun!

It's been a busy year and since it went by so fast, that must be an indication that we had some fun along the way too. :)
Thank you for reading about our adventures on this blog. I wish everyone a fantastic, safe summer!
Congratulations students! Good luck in Grade One! :)

A Beautiful Day for a Field Trip!

The wheels on the bus go round and round~ all the way to Saskatoon!

Well, it doesn't look like a lot of us went on this trip from this photo, but there were 24 students and 4 adults on our K/1/2 year end field trip. The bus was filled with excitement on the way there and back!

At the Bricks for Kids program, students worked with instructions to make various animals out of lego. At the end, they had two huge bags filled with lego to make whatever they wanted.

Then, we were off to a spray park. This was a hit! Some students were so excited to play in the water that they wanted to bypass lunch! It was great to hear their laughter and watch them having a fantastic time. I'm sure they will all sleep well tonight!

One more day!

3....2.....1

Well, our final week of Kindergarten is here! Wow, the days have really seemed to fly by. Today was very much focused on getting ready for our Kindergarten graduation on Friday.
We practiced some songs and had a discussion about what we've learned about this year.
Students made invitations to their graduation to give to family members.

They also worked on some "I've finished K on my way to 1st Grade" crowns.

Since our year end trip is the next day that we come to school, we also read Splat and the Cool School Trip.

2 more days to go! :)

Learning with Others!

This morning we went on an exciting adventure to the local museum! We went with the Grade 1 and 2 class, who were our buddies walking to and from the museum. They also helped with writing down some answers to questions on a piece of paper that everyone was given.

There were some great displays to check out! Our guide provided us with a lot of wonderful information.

When we got back to school, we had our calendar meeting. There were a lot of fill in the blanks with our morning message today!

We also worked on building patterns.

We read a story about Father's Day and everyone drew portraits of their dads, grandpas, or uncles.

Some samples of work from today:

It is interesting how they have drawn their mom and dad with a lot more detail than some of them tend to draw themselves!

After lunch we paired up with the Grade 2s, 3s, and 4s for buddy reading. :) We also watched some Alphablocks videos and played some fun games in the gym! It was a great day and now we only have 3 days left. Oh my!!! Time is flying by. A week from tomorrow is our Kindergarten grad!!

Creativity!

Welcome to our 2nd last week of Kindergarten! Everyone is very excited to count down the days each time we have our calendar meetings. We always count how many days are left before our class trip and how many more days of school we have.

This mornings busy-ness included play-doh creations, farming/sand table action, and building bridges.

We read some great books today about thinking out of the box and being creative.

After reading Going Places, we worked a bit on a Kindergarten memories booklet. We read Sky Color before everyone engaged in drawing their final "This is me" self portrait. We also read The Zlooksh, a story about a boy with a very vivid imagination who draws a picture of his favorite animal- a zlooksh.

We also had our last Raider of the Month assembly today. We sang happy birthday to all students with a birthday in June/July/August, watched a slideshow with photos throughout the year (including a farewell to the staff that are moving on from our school next year), and were introduced to next years SRC. The current SRC organized an activity for the four house league groups. Everyone picked two song titles from a bucket. They had to choose one song, choreograph a dance, and then perform it for the rest of the school. Everyone did fantastic!! It was great to watch students K-12 working together. :)

In other news, our Go Noodle champ McPufferson final reached his highest level today! This is always an exciting time in our classroom.

With that, we have four days of Kindergarten left! :)

Happy Days

Hello! On our 8th last day of school....

We broke into our teams for play day to create signs and chants....

We were treated to a visit by author/artist Leah Dorian, who shared her art (beautiful beadwork!), books, and some information about the Metis culture with us...

We read about The Happy Bee (predicting why he would be so happy!)....

And followed the Cosmic Kids Yoga story about Enzo the Bee....

We read one of Leah Dorian's stories, The Giving Tree....

And in Phys. Ed. we practiced relay races, distance running, long jump, and racing while balancing wooden eggs on wooden spoon.

We are ready for Friday- which will be Play Day! :) What a great way to end the week!

Making Ten, Butterflies, and Ocean Adventures!

The count down is on in our classroom! Even before I read the morning message and asked the questions about upcoming dates, the students were trying to figure out how many days until Play Day! Everyone is very excited.

In Math, we watched another Math Monsters video. This time the monsters were trying to make sets of ten. Then students chose how they wanted to make a set of ten by using a butterfly. They had to count out ten stickers, and place some on one wing and the rest on the other wing. At the bottom of the page they had to completed the math sentence "____ + ____ = 10".

We continued with the butterfly theme with the Eric Carle classic The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Students then made butterflies by coloring coffee filters and making bodies and antennae with pipe cleaners. They will be used to decorate our bulletin board, where we have a "Looking Back, Moving Forward theme." Students photos from September and April are on display, as well as their answers to some questions about Kindergarten and Grade One.

After the butterflies were complete, we tried out a Cosmic Kids yoga video, which told of an adventure with Squish the Fish! The students did a great job following the story and completing the yoga poses.

After lunch, we read Miss Smith: Under the Ocean and then students told their own underwater adventures that I dictated under their drawings.

I read their adventurous tales to the whole group before reading The Pout Pout Fish in the Big Big Dark. Then we set off to the gym, where we practiced relay races and standing long jump to prepare us for some of the Play Day events.

So, that was our busy day today! It's a hot one outside. I hope everyone can keep cool and maybe we will get a bit of rain for our gardens, grass, and fields. :)

On the 9th last day of Kindergarten...

Hello! We had a bustling busy, fun day today. The interest in drawing trucks continued, so we pulled up an easy tutorial video on how to draw a semi truck. The drawings are made from basic shapes, so we have an art and math mixture there.

Some drew on paper and some drew on the white boards (some both!).

We also worked on our final plant observation, as some beans are just refusing to grow!

We do have a random plant growing. I'm not quite sure what it is!

We also had the octopus helping us with math! They used the octopus to represent the numbers one through eight.
Here's the model they followed:

We read some poems from Commotion in the Ocean.

The final products!

We also read another Eric Carle book~ The Grouchy Lady Bug! Some of the students began discussing his style of art, so we may have to do our own Eric Carle inspired art soon.

We also took our June 2015 portraits, which will soon be posted in the hallway with their original beginning of Kindergarten portraits. I love seeing the change! I also asked them some questions about Kindergarten and Grade One that will also be on display.

It was another warm day. Some of our favorite activities are playing in the sand with all kinds of vehicles and the swings!

Our Go Noodle monster McPufferson reached a new level and grew huge muscles! We took the opportunity to show off our own muscles. This bunch of sweeties can sure put on some tough faces!

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend in the sun! Our Adventures shall continue for 8 more days...
